Domain Filtering has been one of our most requested features. It allows you to train all emails arriving from a particular domain to any Sane folder. In other words, you can whitelist or blacklist emails from any employee of a particular company.
Here are a couple of use cases our customers have suggested:
- An annoying PR firm keeps sending you updates you don't want to hear about, but they are smart and keep changing the From addresses every week. With Domain Filtering you can train all emails from annoyingPRfirm.com to SaneBlackHole.
- You're applying for a job at the White House and want to make sure you don't miss any emails coming from there (since you're not sure which person the email could come from). Now you can set all emails from whitehouse.gov to go straight to your Inbox.
- You work at a huge company and get a ton of email from everyone but only some people are worthy of your Inbox. Click the "Domain unimportant" button next to your company's domain and we will stop thinking everyone and anyone from that domain is Inbox-worthy by default. Only those that deserve to be in your Inbox will go there.
-You work at a small company and all company wide email is important even newsletters. Just click the "All Email Important" button next to the domain.
Remember that regardless of what rules and conditions you see under manual domain filtering - any email contacts or senders that you've trained specifically (in your email client or your SaneBox Digest) will continue to go into their trained destination folder.
As usual, you can review or search contact specific trainings any time: www.sanebox.com/dashboard/training
You can find Domain Filtering features on the Advanced Filtering tab your dashboard. Here's what it looks like:
Manual Domain Filtering
This section is initially empty. You can add any domains you wish to here:
Domain name: Enter the complete domain in this field. We don't do partials matches. (newletters.company.com is not the same as company.com)
Choose target folder: We default to Inbox. Once you hit "Add" all emails from the selected domain will go into that folder.
Remove Training button: clicking this will cause SaneBox to treat the domain as we normally would. Our default for unknown domains is to file the emails via the importance of the sender. If we have algorithmically decided the domain is important clicking "Remove Training" will cause the domain to appear in the lower list and we will again treat all non-bulk emails to be Inbox worthy again.
Domains SaneBox thinks are important to you
This list is filled with domains SaneBox considers important. We will still move emails from newsletters and obvious bulk emails to your non-Inbox sane folders, but all other emails from these "important" domains will go into your Inbox regardless of the inherent importance of the sender.
If this section is empty it means that there was not enough email history for us to calculate important domains. This section will fill up as we learn more about your email likes and dislikes.
If you feel that these domains are either not important or that even bulk emails from them are important, use the buttons next to each domain to correct our algorithms.
Domain not important button - Click this to tell us that we should treat emails from this domain in or normal fashion. We will leave emails in your Inbox based on the importance of the sender or type of email only.
All emails are important button - Click this to tell us that all emails from this domain should default to your Inbox. After clicking this button, you will notice the domain will move to the "Manual Domain Filtering" section. You can then indicate a different target folder if you wish. If you change your mind, click "Remove Training" button for that domain and it will move back to this "important domain" section.
Note that if you don't click either button we will assume that emails from this domain should default to your Inbox, with the exception of bulk type emails.
